The municipality of Oberpleichfeld intended to extend the existing cemetery in a south-westerly direction.
The cemetery expansion area is located in the "Dorfgraben" area and is easily accessible from the main road in Oberpleichfeld via Friedhofgasse.
The entrance to the cemetery extension was built next to the existing parking spaces with a double-leaf, wrought-iron gate.
As in the existing cemetery, the entire site of the cemetery extension rises by approx. 1 to 2 % towards the planned waste disposal area and the southern entrance.
The total size of the cemetery extension area is around 700 m².
The existing cemetery is almost completely full. The construction of the new cemetery extension is necessary for the municipality of Oberpleichfeld.
The existing cemetery with its surrounding wall, the listed, large-crowned linden trees, the funeral hall and the chapel form a cohesive unit with historical character.
In order to preserve this special character for the entire cemetery, the dividing wall was demolished and closed off from the residential buildings with a trimmed hornbeam hedge.
The new cemetery can be accessed from Friedhofgasse via the double-leaf, wrought-iron gate to the right of the burial hall. The 1.40 m wide paths in the cemetery extension are designed as water-bound paths with a covering of limestone chippings or moraine chippings.
Newly planted lime trees and existing seating in the old part of the cemetery offer opportunities for rest, reflection and communication.
The urn burial plots are clearly arranged in rows. The individual graves with gravestones are always aligned towards the funeral hall so that the viewing side of the gravestones is in view. The rows of graves are laid out as lawns, with the individual graves divided by a row of paving stones. In order to ensure the long-term stability of the gravestones in the burial plots, the burial plots are provided with concrete strip foundations.
In the extension area, 20 urn graves are planned for burial in the ground.
By demolishing the wall between the existing and new cemetery, the planting area between the lime trees will be replanted with ground cover, grasses and roses. This will create a harmonious connection to the new part of the cemetery. A planting strip for climbing shrubs is planned along the cemetery wall, which will green the wall on climbing ropes.
The accessible areas will be made of water-bound path surfaces. The burial plots will have a single row of paving made from shell limestone. The areas around the scoops and benches will also be paved with shell limestone.
The natural surface makes this stone non-slip and "easy to walk on".
