As an extension of the open space planning around the Institute, the trampling path between Weberplatz and Ackermannstraße was revised last year and integrated into an area-wide design concept. In order to also give the Institute a uniform image from the outside, which is in line with today's design and ecological principles and ties in with the design of the first planning areas, the green spaces surrounding the building are now being redesigned into a nature trail.
Large-scale plantings of shrubs, perennials and grasses, adapted to the species composition already used, form a green base in front of the architecture and welcome visitors before they enter the buildings.
The height-graded perennial planting, attractive large shrubs, a wide variety of nesting opportunities for birds and wild bees, and the extensive mulching provide a variety of hiding places food sources and habitats for numerous creatures. Two strips of larger stones run through the planting as accentuation in the design and additionally structure and enrich the biotope. Lovingly designed information boards are distributed along the area as a theme-based nature trail and illustrate ecological relationships and details of sustainable design that are worth knowing.
