The citizens of the town of Oelsnitz / Erzgebirge decided in a vote to strive for the status of a recognized recreation area. In the run-up to the application process, the municipality commissioned a study on the tourism potential with special consideration of the open space qualities.
The study includes an evaluation of the existing structures and concrete proposals for an upgrade of the urban area with special consideration of tourist target groups on the basis of the inventory of open space-related recreational opportunities.
In coordination with the editors of the tourism development concept, proposals are made for environmentally compatible new locations for caravanning and hotel settlement, suggestions are made for closing gaps in the existing network of hiking trails, or networking structures and new information points are proposed. Over 40 areal, linear and point measures are intended to help optimise the qualities of the urban area in terms of their recreational use.
The concept serves as a long-term planning basis for the development of green infrastructure in the city and complements land use planning and landscape planning.
