Surroundings of the television tower Between Alexanderplatz and Marienkirche

The urban space around the TV Tower is one of the most frequented in Berlin, but has become contourless over the years. We had the task of redefining this important place, i.e. reassigning it its place between Karl-Liebknecht-Straße and Rathausstraße. The starting point for the redesign is the expressive sculpture of the entrance building. We take up its geometric figures and continue them on the green spaces and sidewalk zones.

A large number of additionally planted trees provide shade and delimit the square from the main streets surrounding it. What was once a place of passage becomes a place where people enjoy spending time.
Triangular figures accentuate the square and specify the appearance of the expressive entrance building. The edge elements of the lawns are also seating areas, the lawns may be used as sunbathing areas.
The areas laid out forty years ago are given clear functions. Seating, playground, sunbathing areas and a beer garden are now immediately recognizable to any newcomer and invite him to linger in this place.
