One condition for the construction of the high-quality residential complex in Berlin's popular Prenzlauer Berg district was that the associated courtyard garden be open to the general public. Marthashof became a showcase project and proves how the interplay of public and private areas can work. The park shows its open side to passing strollers and offers the intimate atmosphere of a private garden on the inside.

The buildings of the complex are arranged in a U-shape around the approx. 5,000 m2 courtyard garden, the private gardens are located at the back of the houses. Towards the courtyard, the terraces in front create a natural transition from the living area to the public space.
In the public area, there are secluded places under pergolas entwined with blue ivy, small sunken and rock gardens and cosy meeting places in leafy arbours with benches and picnic tables for long summer evenings.
The unobtrusive centre of the garden is a water table made of simple stone blocks. The refreshing sound of the water welcomes the visitor as soon as he enters the area from the street and sets the mood for the very special atmosphere of Marthashof.
