The castle hill in Lüchow is an architectural monument. In addition to the preserved office tower, whose rooms are now used for exhibitions of the town's history, the foundations and wall remains of the old Lüchow castle can be found here. With the redesign of the castle hill, this place, which was so important for the development of Lüchow, can be experienced again. A square shaped by magnificent existing trees traces the ground plan of the old castle complex. Its figure establishes the spatial context to the tower. At the same time, its surface offers space for municipal events. Benches invite to linger and observe.
The old castle was a four-winged building with an enclosed courtyard. In the translation of the square design, its outlines are now traced in large-format granite slabs. Colour and materiality refer to the preserved foundations, built of broken erratic blocks typical for the region. The base of his buildings is covered with water-bound road surface. It ensures accessibility and provides space for temporary markets. The original inner courtyard forms an open lawn area for playing and storage. At the position of a former stair tower there is now a round stage, the lawn becomes an auditorium during performances.
