The Museum of Art and Culture is located between the Domplatz and the Rothenburg in a prominent position in Münster. Its elongated structure forms a sequence of rooms that can be used as a public passage through the museum. A forecourt on Domplatz forms the prelude, followed by the spacious foyer, a stone patio and a town square on Rothenburg. Like an unrolled carpet, a light-coloured concrete surface accompanies the visitor on his way through the building and combines in its materiality with the exposed concrete surfaces of the museum façades.
The town square on the Rothenburg, on the other hand, is made of small paving stones, the surfacing material of the urban space. Its sawn surface ensures that the area is easy to walk on. Granite steps overcome the height difference to the adjacent street area and dissolve into the surface according to the topography. In addition to the outdoor seating of the gastronomy, they offer spontaneous seating possibilities on the square.
