Eugendorf town centre

A typical village centre dominated by streets has been transformed into an open, multi-purpose space that links the church, school, community hall, community office and pub.

The spaces between the buildings are redefined by ring-shaped paving and thus defined as plazas. The cutting effect of the street is thus broken, the interruption of the roadway and a barrier- and edge-free surface make the town centre a shared open zone in the sense of 'Shared Space'. An orchard runs through the zone and allows the village character to take effect. Targeted spatial enclosures of walls, and a pavilion complement the square boundaries. The entire offer is designed for usability and openness in order to create a new village centre as a meeting space between central public functions.
