The square and the street form a unit in terms of material and paving direction and are subordinate in their design to the historical architecture. The street is separated from the pedestrian area (market square, footpath and terraces) by granite kerbs (flat kerbs) to guide traffic.
To the east, the square will be spatially closed with temporary tree planting. In the long term, the plan is to restore the historical boundaries through development. The center of the square is marked by an artistically designed cuboid fountain (glass/stone). The square is framed by a band of slabs in which relief slabs reflect the historical reference to the city. The fountain and slabs communicate in terms of form and material. Our office held a competition for the artistic components.
To the south of the town hall, a terrace is being created that will be used for open-air gastronomy. The historic Fürstenbrunnen fountain and the sandstone retaining wall will be adapted to the design requirements and renovated or rebuilt in line with the historical image.
A uniform furnishing system (benches, litter bins, bicycle stands, advertising media, etc.) was developed for the market square.
The entire market square is handicapped accessible (elevator and ramp).
