Cemetery Epfach Renewal Old Cemetery

The parish church and the old cemetery, together with the surrounding wall, the rectory and the bakehouse, form a distinctive architectural ensemble that must be preserved in its individuality. "Renewal" in this case means reinterpretation of an existing typology with contemporary means. The exposed landscape location and the view across the Lech to the church on the Lorenzberg become the design-determining moments. The characteristics of the old cemetery are preserved, it is only extended to the east and north. The area around the funeral hall will be redesigned as a front area to the church and the cemetery and will be directly connected to the old cemetery by stairs and walls. Traditional materials will be used, but in a contemporary simple processing. The new cemetery wall will be constructed as a tamped concrete wall with Lechkies as aggregate, decreasing in grain size from the bottom to the top.
