Lindentorplatz, Bad Wildungen

The Lindentorplatz open space is located at the north-western end of Bad Wildungen's old town between Lindenstraße and Stadtring. The Altwildunger Tor was located here in the Middle Ages and was renovated in 2008. The task of the planning was to transform the open space of the former Lindentor, which functions as a key point in the relationship between the city and the landscape and as the entrance to the city, into an attractive city square. The existing varied topography was translated into building structures: a terrace on the historic town wall provides an excellent view of the landscape with Wildung Castle. Steps lead to the lower, more vegetated area of the square.



Lindentorplatz is a historical site with many layers of time that are not immediately obvious, but help to define the place. Three bronze plaques set into the ground tell of the most significant events in brief words and lime tree leaves projected onto the city wall via a spotlight are intended to point out the history of the place from afar. The lower part of the square takes up the garden edge typology - lawn, fruit trees, roses - that was often found outside the town wall in the past. At the same time, the square forms a continuation of the adjacent green corridor, the former cemetery. The various offerings have created a coherent open space that helps to significantly improve the quality of life of the residents of the old town.
