The redesign of Sternschanze between Rentzelstraße and Schanzenstraße will be realized in three construction phases. The 3rd construction phase comprises the redesign of the street spaces and adjacent open areas around the Sternschanze underground and suburban railway station. This planning process was carried out with public participation. The open space concept 'Unsere Schanze' picks up the versatile and 'edgy' identity of the district: The square at Sternschanze receives a homogeneous slabbed surface, which is interrupted by narrow bands of the existing granite paving. Together with seating steps, they recreate the shape of a redoubt - the prelude to the neighbourhood. The paving bands run through the entire pavement area and connect S-Bahn and U-Bahn stations with each other.
