The lake stage on the western shore of Blausteinsee represents a first building block of the lake centre planned here. The publicly accessible stage with the slightly rising grandstand in front of it (including some stationary seating elements in the first rows) is not only a venue for events, but also a place to stay or a viewing platform. It consists of a steel structure fixed to a ring of piles driven into the lake bed.
The roof structure is integrated into an oval roof edge beam, which transfers its loads into diagonally running external supports. The clamped-in stage floor is covered with a wooden decking. The textile membrane roof is stretched over arched supports of the roof structure.
For use at events, the lake stage is pre-equipped with brackets that can accommodate traverses that can be raised and lowered and to which the necessary lighting and sound systems can be suitably fixed for the respective performance. Basic lighting is built into the surrounding frame and is permanently available. The stage is reached by means of a concrete walkway overhanging the edge of the bank, the railing of which can be removed during performances.
The lake stage was awarded the architecture prize of the city of Eschweiler in 2008.
