AVZ Aachen

An elongated plaza connects the Institute of Biology, which dates from the 1970s, with the new building of the Research Institute of Biology and Zoology of RWTH Aachen University. The area, which is structured by dark bands, is divided by slightly raised islands of grass. In connection with the flowering cherry trees planted in it, this creates an attractive outdoor space that is popular with students and staff. The square structure is particularly effective in front of the new building, which has numerous glass surfaces. Also part of the planning was the realization of the residual material and glass bottle storage, extensive staircases and also the necessary parking spaces.
