Within two years, a landscape-architectural redesign of the Parc Kaltreis has taken place, in which the wishes of the users have played an important role.

The park is located in the Bonnevoie-South district, south of the city centre, and was realised in the 1980s. Since then, it has been an important part of the open space network of the city of Luxembourg. Due to its exposed location between urban landscape (residential quarter) in the north and cultural landscape (agricultural, forest and meadow areas) in the south, the park functions as a connecting link between the two types of landscape. Landscape elements also meet urban elements in the park.

The reason for the redesign was the technical and visual deficiencies of the two man-made ponds. As well as the findings obtained in a participation process that the park no longer meets current and future usage requirements.

The existing urban and landscape elements were strengthened and re-staged through targeted interventions and additions. The existing vegetation edge along the boulevard Kaltreis remains and forms the backbone of the park. It is the counterpart to the opposite undeveloped "landscape edge", which provides a view into the cultural landscape.
The new centre forms the "Urbane-Mitte", with the park entrée as well as play, sports and recreation areas. A landscaped area adjoins each to the east and west. The three park areas are connected by the new main path.

In the "Urban Centre" is the themed playground "Space", one of the most important wishes from the participation process. Even from a distance you can recognize "Apollo 11" the rocket slide tower. With its red and white checkered perforated sheeting and a height of 7.80 meters, it is the eye-catcher of the entire play area. It is complemented by eight further pieces of play equipment. Which are partly special productions, which were designed and built particularly and up to the smallest detail for the Parc Kaltreis.

On hot summer days the space playground gets competition by the water play on the Piazza. Its hilly design of modelled cast-in-place concrete evokes associations with a planetary surface on closer inspection. Fog jets, water jets and water cannons provide a lot of fun for the little park visitors. During the months when the water feature is not in use, its design allows it to be used as a skate and bike obstacle.

The two play areas are complemented by a boules court, basketball and volleyball courts, and a street workout park.

The landscaped areas focus on tranquility, recreation and deceleration. Curved paths allow visitors to experience the landscape and invite them to take a stroll.
