The small community of Galmsbüll in the north of Schleswig-Holstein no longer needs a large part of the current cemetery area and therefore commissioned the development of a new concept for cemetery use until 2030.
The part near the church continues to be used as a cemetery and is supplemented by new urn graves. The part no longer needed for burials could be transformed into a park with an event area for the community. Two large ovals form the defining elements. One is an event area with a water-bound surface and enclosed by a seating wall and a frieze wall, the second is a tree oval made of ornamental apples with a band of grasses to structure the extensive area. Part of the lawns could be extensified and transformed into a sea of flowers with native seed mixes.
In order to upgrade the cemetery area, four small seating areas could be created here between the graves and the quality of stay for visitors could be significantly increased.
