The charisma of the new Friedrichstadt-Palast reaches far beyond Berlin. State-of-the-art technology and an internationally renowned ballet company make every show an experience. Since 2007, the theatre has been celebrating one success after another under its new artistic director. High time to also improve the external image of the magnificent building of the former GDR.
From the very beginning, we knew that we wanted to emphasize the peculiarities of this worldwide unique building with its characteristic Art Deco and Art Nouveau elements. We continued the clear architecture of the prefabricated building in the exterior and lifted the light building onto a stage of dark stone.
The plaza and the surrounding open staircase combine to create a generous, inviting gesture. Small-scale elements that could steal the show from the building were dispensed with.
The colored glass windows of the revue theater previously only unfolded their effect during the day, when sunlight fell into the foyer. But life happens here at night. The new lighting concept lets the Friedrichstadt-Palast shine from the inside. Now it can be seen from afar in all its glory after dark. The show can begin.
