Fitness area for young and old in an existing urban garden.
In the Old Town Garden in Oberkirch, space became available for a small training area for young and old. There used to be a deer enclosure here, but the idea of menagerie was abandoned as no longer in keeping with the times and a solution was now sought after proposals from a play equipment manufacturer had not yet brought thematic order. As if to form a string of pearls, we therefore joined six gravel ovals with training equipment at the wooded edge of the Old Town Garden. The remaining meadow space will be preserved and not "overdeveloped" with equipment. In this way, the basic idea for the entire city garden is faithfully followed: Clear the center, strengthen the edges. A small access path picks up the paved area of the former "deer observation area" and takes it as a new entrée.
Working within the existing tree population required sensitivity in the design. Supplemental underplanting necessitated significant watering during the dry summer of 2018.
