After the necessary deep debris removal, a dreary, sealed schoolyard has been transformed into new, spacious and varied exercise areas as well as play and sports facilities. The planning was preceded by an intensive participation process with students and teachers.
Playgrounds
The schoolyard has a uniform surface of light concrete rectangular paving. The "play, sport and learning islands" located within this consist of different coloured surfacing of plastic and woodchips, as well as grass and shrub areas. The existing furniture as well as the equipment with playground equipment was qualified and supplemented by a climbing spider with slide, a climbing wall, a balancing path, a hexagonal tire swing and two hammocks.
Sports areas
For sports lessons and break times, a multi-purpose sports field about 45 cm lower was built in the southwestern courtyard area. Football, handball, basketball and volleyball can be played here. The running track with long jump facility was integrated into the schoolyard area using colored asphalt that matches the concrete paving.
Planting areas
High tree-covered shrub plantings on the perimeter, as well as low shrub plantings in the schoolyard and in front of the buildings, create a green setting and differentiated open spaces. New tree plantings within the planting areas and in the paved areas provide shade and create amenity areas.
