The Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Milchstraße (in the villa built as the Budge-Palais) is located on the Geestkante of the Alstervorland, between the green shore and the urban cityscape of the 1890s.
Spatially highly complex, three buildings of different eras and architectural styles collide here in the middle.
The former palais forms a coherent 2 to 3 storey ensemble with its original neighbours in the street. The two new arrivals (the tiled lecture theatre building, circa 1970 and the plain white library building) require a different response to the historic one.
We remain very functional and round out the entrance plaza facing Milchstrasse with a yew hedge. The romantic perennial planting in front of it brings an intimate character to the square that it would not otherwise have with the large format benches and resilient paving stones.
