Uferpark, Melsungen

Since 2013, foundation 5 landscape architects have been commissioned with the further development of the area between the old town and the Fulda in Melsungen. The core of the open space concept is the reorganization and relocation of stationary traffic, the upgrading of recreational, sports and play areas and the creation of a tree-lined promenade as a uniform urban edge. Due to current urban planning developments, the framework conditions for the park have changed for the better. With the emergence of large parking garages, parking spaces on the edge of the park can be further reduced, the park bank and promenade are given more space and Sandstrasse is incorporated into the park concept as an avenue.



Parallel to the concept update, the first construction phases have been implemented since 2015. The east bank path, the motorhome parking area and the western park bank path (R1) with views of the river give a first impression of the new design. The skating and inline skating area is another piece of the park puzzle. With the promenade, the reconstruction of Sandstrasse and the start of construction of the Fulda steps, further major structural redesigns are taking place.



Gradually, a versatile city park by the water is being created, which will ensure Melsungen's high quality of life in the long term.
