In cooperation with the Regionale 2010 agency, the municipality of Blankenheim has announced a limited architectural and landscape planning competition for the realization of the Roman Villa Blankenheim.

The design by schneider schumacher, which brings the former Roman estate back to life and makes the spatial extent, dimensions and arrangement within the landscape tangible again, was awarded 1st prize.

The portico of the historic main building will be erected as a simple but very fine and precise construction in its original dimensions and on the historic site. The transparent construction, assembled from prefabricated elements made of Corten steel slats, represents the building, which is no longer visible, in its actual size. Former window and door openings in the rear wall are visible in relief as indentations in the steel profiles. Glass panels can be laid on the roof as weather protection.

The walls of the former estate buildings are made visible by lines, the floor plans are filled in so that the dimensions of the rooms and the room sequences are clearly visible. A simple, unpretentious route, which begins at the main entrance on the central axis in the north-east, leads visitors across the grounds to the locations of the former buildings. The most important information is listed on panels.
