Open space planning for the new Fraunhofer Institute for Molecular Biology and Applied Ecology IMEBR in Giessen
The design is derived from the urban development concept. In view of the future development of the area, a spacious public square is already being created to the east of the institute building. Initially designed as a parking lot, it will
into a tree-covered focal point and meeting place for employees of the neighboring institutes. By changing the material, this central location is designed as an inlay in the middle of the surrounding driveways. The character of the square is supported by large-crowned trees planted in a grid (art in architecture).
The roof surfaces of the institute and the outdoor storage area are designed with extensive
green roofs. This greening supports the microclimate of the site and provides cooling for the users of the roof terrace in summer. In addition, a variety of planting leads to a visual enhancement of the recreation and work areas.
