"A strictly geometric ground plan, a Renaissance tool of order and a reflection of precise, humanistic research, organizes the plot, whose lovely vegetation defies the grid and is intended to tell a story of time ..." (atelier le balto 2011). Based on the preliminary considerations of the landscape architecture firm atelier le balto, the consortium of atelier le balto and GFSL was commissioned to redesign the Melanchthon Garden within its original boundaries.

The garden extends the exhibition, where visitors can immerse themselves in the life and everyday world of the reformer

Philipp Melanchthon can immerse themselves in. The restored historical walls enclose a "Hortus Conclusus", in the center of which stands a venerable yew tree. In its shade is a replica of a historic stone table at which Melanchton is said to have discussed with his students. As the sources did not allow for a reconstruction of a traditional garden image, the opportunity arose for a modern interpretation, which deliberately sets itself apart from the historical context through distorted geometry. It divides the garden into various squares, in which there is space for an orchard, a wooden platform and the medicinal and kitchen garden. This modern interpretation of a medieval herb and kitchen garden offers a collection of medicinal plants and invites visitors to explore, stroll and linger.
