The HBI headquarters building is embedded in a clearing in a natural wooded area with a woodland character. The site is accessible via a bridge over the Schiffergraben, whose character is enhanced by additional plantings of multi-stemmed hornbeams.
A generous forecourt area made of used basalt cobblestones forms the entrance and offers space for seating and bicycle parking for visitors.
A connecting path towards the city runs through a park-like planting area of low shade grasses, ferns and perennials.
Selective evergreen shrub plantings set accents within the park-like areas near the buildings and also mediate between the existing shrubs and low perennial grasses. At the same time, they provide privacy without shading the building. Bollard luminaires on the paths and squares around the building provide atmospheric lighting.
