Petrikirchplatz and eastern city wall Rostock

St. Peter's Church was the parish church of the old town. The monument on the northeast side is dedicated to Joachim Slüter. The reformer preached to the citizens of Rostock for the first time in Low German on the church square. With the renovation, the neglected northern surroundings of the church became again a public space for meeting, which is used by many residents. Visitors experience a clear and tidy place with many historical references and information. The Slüter Monument is once again exposed in the open space and can be experienced as a place to stay and rest. The new enclosure of the monument was realized with contemporary forms in historical material.The existing paths were revised, the path relationships were rearranged and missing ones were added. New entrances were created in the west and northeast, and the church and Slüter monument were made handicapped accessible. The whole area is now used even more intensively by the residents of the adjacent Maria-Martha nursing home. A stone bench with a large granite slab traces the historic vantage point and can be used as a seat, sun bench, picnic table or play area.On the west side of the church, the former buildings (Heringshäuser) were traced in the paved area with a band of Corten steel. At the same time, this band serves as a frame for a display board, which shows the historical development and significance of the site in illustrations and explanatory text.
