The compensatory measures and the reinforcement of the main dike at Langwarder Groden (Butjadingen peninsula) are a project complex consisting of compensatory measures, dike construction and soil removal in the area of the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park. The former had to be carried out, among other things, for significant impairments caused by the construction of the deep-water port JadeWeserPort in Wilhelmshaven.
The nature experience project NaturErleben Langwarder Groden complements the complex of measures and offers an attractive, in Germany unique opportunity to experience the tidal dynamics and the development of salt marshes in the middle of the National Park.
During the construction of the JadeWeserPort (2008 - 2012) as well as the dyke reinforcements Cäciliengroden (1995 - 2000) and Augustgroden (2000 - 2004), considerable impairments of habitats and their fauna in the outer dyke area occurred, for which replacement measures had to be planned and implemented in the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park.
