Shielded by four large-crowned plane trees with their classic candelabras and a water-bound surface, the hop garden exudes a French flair.
Organically shaped planted islands with elegant steel borders frame the old trees. They vary in height and width and thus forming areas to sit and relax. The weekly market takes place in the middle of the square and outdoor cafes located at the edges of the square, paved with basalt small stones. The most important pedestrian connection between Holzhofstraße and Augustinerstraße is designed free of barriers with a continuous strip of colored concrete slabs.
Formerly used as a parking lot, the site has been completely transformed into a charming, lively city square in the center of Mainz.
