The Rhenish garden tradition is closely linked to Poppelsdorf and the Bonn gardens. The new campus draws on these lines of tradition.
A new green urban space is created on an area 12 hectare, connecting the districts Poppelsdorf, Endenich and Weststadt.
Following the Rhenish garden tradition, a new garden typology is created, providing identity and cohesion to the heterogeneous urban body. It is a multi-layered complementary space in which atmospheres of density are interwoven with places of contemplation and silence. It develops an independent profile as a "campus in the gardens". Thus, the horticultural tradition of the site is not abolished with the development of the district, but rather reactivated and transported into the future.
For a future educational environment, the open space serves as a significant zone of communication between the students and the various disciplines and institutes. The fabric of urban and green spaces is understood as a multi-layered catalyst for social interactions and knowledge transfer.
