Salvador Allende Square in Jena Lobeda East Creation of a new town square with a water basin, a public playground and ball playground, connection to the supra-regional green and path connections

The Salvador-Allende-Platz was developed as a square space and part of the district centre with an urban character and is the focal point for linking the districts Lobeda East and Lobeda West.

The connection of the supra-regional green spaces is emphasized by rows of trees and perennial plantings. Furthermore, new sports and play areas were created in the western part. The barrier-free passage between Lobeda East and West additionally creates a connection to the supra-regional cycle path. In order to make the square effect possible, spatial edges were created by raised green areas, rows of trees as well as structural space dividers. The entrance area at the Erlanger Allee is formed by a square planted grove, which merges into the open square area. The square was paved with high-quality concrete slabs in rectangular large format.
The Neptune sculpture by the artist Axel Schulz was placed in the new water basin. The square is illuminated with light steles as well as linear LED strips embedded in the water basin. The entrances to the pedestrian tunnel were widened to provide a better overview.
