From 1887 to 1938, the main synagogue stood behind Munich's Stachus until Hitler had it demolished overnight. The two other synagogues were demolished or largely destroyed during the pogrom in November 1938.
In 2006, the construction of a community center, a museum and a synagogue on St-Jakobs-Platz was completed. The architects were Wandel Hoefer Lorch. Thus, Munich has a new main synagogue in the center of the city community.
