Rubenowplatz is one of the two large squares in the historic old town of Greifswald. It is both the representative forecourt of the university and a green meeting and resting place in the centre of the Hanseatic city. Since 1856, the Rubenowdenkmal, a monument of great artistic value, has commemorated the founder of the university. In a contemporary, easily readable design language, the redesign is based on the earlier Lenné planning. Around the Rubenowdenkmal the wayside cross widens to a pavement mirror with loosely interspersed beech balls. A water basin close to the ground becomes a meditative eye-catcher.
