The Neckarlauer is a riverside area in front of the old town for loading and unloading ships. However, the main focus is on tourist use. Access is via a road/ramp or via four existing steps.
The path, currently made of natural stone paving, and the stairs were in a desolate condition. The aim of the design is to provide barrier-free access, upgrade the waiting area and create a welcoming atmosphere for visitors. The historic natural stone paving was taken up and stored. A barrier-free path made of Neckar Valley sandstone was created. The areas around the stairs and entrances have been widened to provide waiting areas for wheelchair users. The historic natural stone paving was incorporated into the resulting inlays. This preserves the original character of the Neckarlauer.
The addition stands out from the existing structure. The stairs were given sandstone steps and handrails made of flat steel. In order to increase the quality of stay, two three-row benches made of sandstone were planned in addition to three single-row seating blocks/seating edges in the central area. Recessed lights are integrated into the seating blocks. The design is based on straight lines and clear lines, takes the existing structure into account and sets new accents.
