Bishan -Ang Mo Kio Park

The importance of Bishan Park is comparable to that of Central Park in New York. In the densely populated heartland of Singapore, it is one of the few green oases. Created in 1960, it had long been due for renovation. The 2.7-kilometer-long concrete canal, located on the southwestern edge, also offered the opportunity to develop a new, integrated concept. The result is a completely new living space in the middle of Singapore, with a natural river meandering through a park. Not only are residents delighted with the nine park, rare birds, deep pink shimmering dragonflies and insect species, and endangered plants are finding new habitat; the river is also part of an island-wide stormwater management program to support drinking water supplies.

Integrated into the approximately 65-acre park are three adventure playgrounds, new restaurants, a viewing platform, the so-called "Recycle Hill" - constructed entirely of demolition material from the canal - and a 1-acre cleaning biotope, complementing the ecological river restoration with sensitively integrated uses. Here you can take off your shoes, explore the river barefoot or dance with the kingfishers - in the middle of the city!
