Water traces Hann Münden

The project shows the ecological aesthetics of a water-sound-light composition and is groundbreaking for a new, experimental planning culture. Public information and planning workshops and extensive press work were important prerequisites for the success and sustainable identification of the citizens with the development of the city.

In an intensive planning process between citizens, planners and artists, from planning to execution, ideas for the redesign of historic old town squares developed. So-called "citizen stones", paving stones worked on by citizens can be found in the design.

Between the church and the town hall, a slightly stepped water surface was created with a water depth of only 4cm, mainly fed by rainwater. Over structured sloping areas the water reaches the next deeper basin. Different flow patterns are created, which are illuminated at night with light guide technology. Microphones integrated into the light stelae pick up sounds from the environment and activate wave microphones. By means of light reflections these wave movements are projected onto the wall of the town hall. The intended interaction leads from viewing to doing, water is consciously experienced.
