The redesign of Landwehrplatz comprises the area between the western, northern and eastern edges of the square up to the edge of the platform on Großherzog-Friedrich-Strasse, as well as the street space in the direction of Max-Ophüls-Platz up to the interface between the old building and the new building of Otto-Hahn-Gymnasium. Rothenbergstraße and Bruchwiesenstraße will be treated as development areas as before, and their streetscape character will be preserved. In addition to the built spatial edges, the trees, i.e. the handling of the existing trees and new tree plantings, are used as an effective element for spatial design.
The Landwehrplatz is divided into 2 sub-areas:
An open, neutral square area in front of the fire station and the Otto Hahn High School (traffic-free) and a tree-covered square area (parking spaces) along Bruchwiesenstraße. Thereby, the city-spatial effective axis in continuation of the Rotenbergstraße is taken up. A roof construction runs parallel to the Großherzog-Friedrich-Straße as a demarcation and to increase the quality of stay while at the same time making it possible to experience the square (urban space quality) from the street. By reducing the number of bus stops and a concentrated designation in connection with the Saarbahn stop, the roof takes on the functions of a colonnade and bus stop.
