The urban development measure Tarforster Höhe covers a total area of approx. 50 ha, on which new residential and mixed building areas were designated and in some areas upgraded as a local recreation area. The planning includes the design of these public green spaces with the integration of necessary retention and infiltration facilities for the surface drainage of the settlement areas. In doing so, it follows the use and design stipulations of the development plan. It includes compensatory measures for structural interventions and establishes the connection of the new residential area with the adjacent open spaces. The areas in the planning area were previously used as arable land and grassland, the adjacent slope areas are stocked with oak coppice and shrubs.
The green corridor "Am Olbeschwäldchen" defines the contact area between settlement and landscape. It follows the edge of the plateau, bundles all paths from the building areas and continues them. It becomes a component of a large-scale usable open space structure, which in the long term will encompass the entire high city districts. It achieves its special character from the interplay of spatial and visual references between settlement and landscape, the perceptible alternation of density and expanse. Its course along the curved edge of the slope, the targeted opening of new fields of vision and the design of special places to play and stay support this experiential value in alternation with landscaped sections. In the interior of the new residential area, a special square will be created at the central point where Carl-Carstens-Straße, as the main access axis, meets the crossing green connection between Olbeschgraben and the development areas to the east. This junction in the public open space network reacts in its design to the superordinate spatial references, offers an exposed place to stay and thus becomes a point of identification for the new district.
