The redesign of the Altmarkt, Dresden's oldest square, was subject to a multi-layered and complex requirement profile: Integration of tram stop and underground car park with 468 parking spaces into the square area as well as reorganisation of the adjacent pedestrian areas. An urban, representative and multifunctional city square has been created - an inner-city stage with a high quality of stay.
The design concept is consistently coordinated with the changing history of the square. Five water basins, in which the brightly lit arcades are reflected, mark the original historic square edge of the Altmarkt. The natural stone blocks, into whose upper side a relief was worked, are an attraction as sculptural bodies even without water.
