Poetic paths
Paths that are more than just a connection between two or more points, paths that are also a destination: that is the basic idea of the concept. As a result, not only paths between and to the important source and destination points are established, but a whole network of paths is created, which connect the bus stop, car parks, old town and school in a cheerful and swinging way, as well as linking to the city park to the north: poetic paths.
Users have the freedom to choose between several alternatives in each direction. Direct connection or small, playful detours, wider paths or narrower ones, more paved or typical forest paths, changing gradients, changing perspectives. The space between destinations becomes a space of conscious movement, conscious experience and different dynamics. On 'fast' paths cyclists, bladers, skaters etc. ride, on the 'slower' ones one enjoys strolling through the park-like stand. Those who want to literally get out of the way have all the options here. Elderly people are not harassed by impetuous children, couples look for their way away from each other and so on.
Along the way, a very efficient network of paths is created, which can cope with the demands and larger movements of people. Arriving coaches that drop off their 'cargo' for a tour of the historic city, the start and end of school, which (can) trigger large crowds, and much more, are guided past each other without conflict. But also points to linger longer are provided. Round or elliptical seating walls made of natural stone, which enclose trees or planted areas and are integrated into the path network at several points, invite people to stay. A range of 'classic' park benches with backrests offer additional opportunities for people in need of or dependent on comfort to linger. With half-height pole lights and not too glaring lights along the paths, a pleasant illumination is achieved, which also conveys safety after dusk, without 'drowning out' the character of the park too glaringly.
The material concept supports the basic idea of the selectable path alternatives. The path surfaces are also different, albeit kept as similar in colour as possible. The main paths and accesses are constructed with consolidated surface/cover with bituminous ( coloured asphalt) or hydraulic bond ( HGT). On these surfaces it is possible to move forward quickly and with comfort. The 'woodland paths' with typical water-bound surface are more for slower progress.
North and south-east of the school building the terrain slopes gently towards the new building. This will significantly mitigate the elevation situation. The tree population is preserved and extended along the park paths by new plantings (tree plantings: 24 pcs., compensatory measure).
