The abandonment of Kohlgruber Straße as a connection to the west calls for a fundamental urban redefinition of this public space in Murnau. The function as a central node at a central point in the town layout consisting of Bahnhofstraße, Postgasse, Burggraben and Kohlgruber Straße has become obsolete as a result of the town centre bypass. The immediately adjacent Münter-Platz should also be included in the overall consideration.

At this interface, very different public open spaces, streets and alleys, squares and parks, must be interwoven both functionally and in terms of design. The buildings that define the public space, and in part also shape it, must also be taken into account. The characteristic stepped gable of the post office, the pavilion-like building of the cultural centre, the functionalist architecture at Münter-Platz and others form a structural as well as functional diversity that must be integrated into a spatial unity. This diversity is supplemented by a multitude of interventions in the open space in the form of walls, stairs, terrain slopes, etc.
Where these are not due to the necessary reaction to the pronounced slopes of the terrain, they must be reduced. Elsewhere, these elements will be used in future to make the topography visible and for spatial zoning and definition at the 'corners' of the newly defined public (square) space, e.g. in front of the post office building in the form of a bastion with a view of the new square.
