The Mittelstraße in Gevelsberg is with the existing pedestrian zone part of the urban and functional center of the entire city.
The street space was redesigned simple, modern and pedestrian-oriented. The facades come back into their own, trees were placed very purposefully.
The walkway as a central part of the redesign gives the street space structure and clarity; the modern, reduced design creates calm and atmosphere.
On the squares, the clear allocation of functional areas dissolves. The uniform pavement design puts pedestrians on an equal footing with vehicular traffic.
The squares are designed simply, with few furnishing elements such as benches, lights, individual play points and plenty of space for diverse and changing events and exhibitions.
The square in front of the Adult Education Centre was given an additional interesting design with water. Interaction and experience are also at the forefront of this design.
The strolling strip and squares create space for people. There is now plenty of space to stroll, to meet, to play, space for café tables, resting benches, merchandise displays, for city festivals and much more....
