The planning area is located in an urban environment that is characterized in the north by the densely built city center and the green spaces of the Leipzig Promenade Ring and in the south by the predominantly Gründerzeit, closed building structures of the Südvorstadt.
In order to do justice to the special nature of the building and its location, the immediate surroundings of the church are understood as a square, which runs through the churchyard like a passage. Here the use of a uniform choice of materials as a clear contrast to the facade is in the foreground.
The special character of the churchyard is significantly strengthened by a purposefully placed solitaire and a water curtain. In addition to the atmospheric elevation, the water curtain serves to reduce the adjacent street emissions and improve the climate.
In order to do justice to its historical, urban significance, the Nonnenmühlgasse, which borders on the southwest, is designed in the form of a level and structured "street cross-section". The uniform choice of materials in different "grains" avoids a design break with regard to the desired "square situation".
