Herrmann Square Former border forecourt, Bad Muskau

The former border forecourt is located directly at the main entrance to the Muskauer Park / Park Muzakowski World Heritage Site. The reason and purpose of the project is to give the square space located directly at the main entrance to the World Heritage Site Muskauer Park, which had lost its function with the discontinuation of the stationary border controls and the removal of the canopies, a new and appropriate design for the site.
The special quality arises from the interweaving of garden motifs with urban elements. The spatial subdivision of the planning area creates proportions that correspond to the urban structure ofBad Muskau. The square is subdivided into a garden square part and a traffic-affected area. This clearly distinguishes the Grenzplatz from the other squares in the town, gives it an individual character and also takes into account the historical layout of the square. A clear spatial edge to the Neisse River is formed, which integrates and stages the new bridgehead at the Neisse Dam.
