The park is located at the interface between the heavy industrial facilities of Thyssen Krupp Steel in the west, north and east and the residential area of Bruckhausen, which is characterized by its Wilhelminian style.
It is the link between the green belt north "Marxloh" and the adjacent open spaces of Beeckerwerth and Rönsberghof in the south.
The three elementary building blocks of the park are:
the landscape structure as an accessible spatial sculpture and noise barrier in the west with vantage points, the promenade flanked with flowering and fruit trees in the east and the central lawn and meadow areas.
The clear spatial framework of tree-lined framing, spatial sculpture and open clearing enables a sense of density and expanse in the open space.
The woody structures and ground modelling manage to strengthen the interior space of the park through deliberate settlements and at the same time create visual references to the urban space and the industrial plants at exposed points.

With the new park, r b landschaft s architektur transforms a formerly densely built-up district into a dynamic public park.
As part of one of the largest urban redevelopment measures in the old federal states, a green area of approx. 8.4 hectares was created in the Duisburg Bruckhausen redevelopment area, at the interface between Wilhelminian residential areas and industrially used areas through the targeted deconstruction of residential buildings. The areas are part of the green belt Duisburg North, which extends from Bruckhausen in the south to Marxloh in the north and connects the urban districts to the existing supra-regional green corridors.
The new park will in future form a buffer between the heavy industry to the west of Bruckhausen and the residential areas and will help to improve the quality of life in the district. As a "park on the doorstep", green and open spaces with a high quality of stay and design have been developed for the residents of Bruckhausen. The objectives for the design of the open spaces, which form the basis of the initial competition task and the further planning, were developed in an intensive dialogue with the local population.
The districts are characterised, among other things, by environmental pollution in connection with an outdated building fabric, high vacancy rates, a deficient green and open space situation and a lack of infrastructure, which are the cause of urban planning deficiencies and considerable functional losses. In addition, the districts are characterised by social and economic problems, which have been improved in recent years by numerous projects and measures under the Socially Integrative City NRW programme. However, the general problem of the mixed situation could not be solved.
In parts of Bruckhausen and Beeck, in the direct vicinity of industry, there was a particular accumulation of urban planning grievances.
The new park stands in the tense interplay between urban and landscape atmospheres. The three elementary building blocks of the park are: the landscape structure as an accessible spatial sculpture and noise protection, the promenade in the east flanked by flowering and fruit trees, and the central lawn and meadow areas.
The clear spatial framework of tree-lined framing, spatial sculpture and open clearing enables a sense of density and expanse in the open space. As an idealized natural space, its basic concept follows the motif of the Volkspark with central lawns for playing, barbecuing and relaxing. The woody structures and ground modelling succeed in strengthening the interior of the park through deliberate settlements and at the same time in creating visual references to the urban space and the industrial plants at exposed points.
The park combines and emphasises design and ecological concerns in equal measure.
We hope that with the realisation of the park a sign of change and departure could be set, which can have an effect beyond the boundaries of the district and make a contribution to a positive image and stabilisation of the district.
