The renovation of the aging Stadtgarten aims to develop a distinct identity and an attractive address for all Stuttgart residents. The arrangement, based on the historical principle of the flower and show garden, offers attractions on the ring and an open lawn area for flexible use inside. This new principle of arrangement can optimally meet today's diverse demands for use and creates the desired strong identity. Seasonal flowering shrubs, natural perennials, art objects, recreation and activity areas are arranged like a string of pearls along a circular path.
The water balance and urban climate are supported by collecting rainwater in defined planting areas, storing it, filtering it and delaying its return to the groundwater. The planted vegetation areas as well as the existing and newly planned trees can evaporate large amounts of water and thus contribute to the improved urban climate with pleasant humidity in the summer months. Thus, the tree concept combines functional and ecological goals. The existing rows of chestnut trees are supplemented and thus developed into a strong spatially effective frame in a development process. Outside the tree frame, a pelt consisting of a diverse flower meadow and bee pasture is created.
