For the Regionale 2010, a master plan for green spaces was developed in order to develop the cultural landscape network of the Cologne-Bonn region from within the region. The project Regio Green is part of this master plan and provides five open space corridors, which forms the third Cologne Green Belt.
In this context, the Gymnicher mill on the Erft is a place where culture and landscape are thematized in a water experience park. In experience stations 103km Erft are represented from the source to the mouth. Castle, mineral resources, observation tower, pond, mill / agriculture, estuary, water workshop.
These stations are connected by a water channel, which can be used as a footpath through various soil materials. Integrated into the path there will also be kilometre stones, which establish the connection between the experience stations with the "real" places at the Erft.
At the same time it is important to preserve the special character of the Gymnicher Mühle. The generous meadow areas, interspersed with individual very special trees, seem like a sleeping gem.
