Forests and lakes, the archetypal Finnish landscape, surround the new settlement in the northwest of the city of Tampere. In order to protect this landscape and to stage it as a background, a new city park was placed between the landscape and the settlement. The landscape is brought to the new town square and into the settlement via a joint between two parts of the settlement.
The new park serves as a recreation area for the new residents, but beyond that, important water management functions are integrated. All rainwater from the settlement is filtered and temporarily stored here. The new lake serves to buffer flood peaks and protect southern settlements and the existing stream still meanders picturesquely through the new park and ultimately disappears into the adjacent woods.
The result is a modern park that protects the surrounding nature and the necessary functions staged as a design highlight.
