The restoration of the Kallang River from a sterile concrete channel to a natural urban river with dynamic channel development is an important pilot project for the implementation of the Stormwater Management Master Plan for the Singapore Central Watershed area. Accompanying the revitalisation of the river is the redevelopment of the surrounding regional parks - a popular green oasis in the city that receives more than 3 million visitors annually, most of them from the dierecent neighbourhood. Providing diverse recreational areas and strengthening social connections through the river, while respecting the urban environment played a central role in the design, as in the essential flood management designs.
The creation of ABC (active, beatiful, clean) design - guidelines for water related to urban deign is an important step in the Central Watershed Master Plan implementation, as water quality plays an important role in Singapore. The immediate goal is to produce drinking water from rainwater.
