Tianjin Cultural Park

The main feature of the 90-hectare cultural center and especially the central parks is the relationship to the water, which has shaped the coastal city of Tianjin since time immemorial.

The opera house located at one end of the central lake as a cultural,. architectural center is juxtaposed with the "Eco-Island". This island offers people with groves of trees, a beach, rocky shores and meadow areas space for recreation and direct experience of nature. The north shore is characterized by themed gardens, with water playgrounds and watercourses that are highly related to Tianjin's history as a water city and open up a variety of activities for visitors to the park. In front of these are floating gardens with lush aquatic plants along the large lake promenade. On the south side of the lake, a cultural axis is being created that includes a Cust Gallery, a City Museum, and a Library. These three cultural buildings are laid out along a cultural promenade and each have individually designed terraces with water themes. Almost all of the rainwater is stored, reused, or discharged at a reduced rate; even the lake is operated exclusively with rainwater. This innovative system avoided the need to expand the existing combined sewer system, which would have cost millions.
