The Neckar Park in Marbach is the gateway for all those who explore Marbach by boat or on two wheels via the Neckar Valley Cycle Path, as well as an important local recreation area for the Schiller town. Before the redesign, the banks along the park were steep and technically obstructed throughout and offered no possibility of reaching the water. The passenger boat landing stage was only accessible via a narrow staircase in the steep bank. When redesigning the river bank in the area of the Neckar Park, the city of Marbach set two priorities. On the one hand, the bank in the area of the ship landing stage was attractively redesigned with seating steps and wooden loungers, a small bay was created at the water's edge and the landing stage was made barrier-free by a path parallel to the bank in the embankment. On the other hand, further upstream, a large new bay was created with rows of seating stones in the embankment and a small wooden deck at the water's edge, which can also be used for mooring canoes. The large bay was also equipped with a variety of structures as refuges for aquatic life. The generous redesign of the banks was made possible through cooperation with the Stuttgart Water and Shipping Authority, which repaired the bank protections in the course of the measures. Due to the strong flattening of the banks above and below the water, the concrete slabs of the original canal construction could be largely replaced by loose stone fills as bank protection (revetments).
